National standards exist which provide guidelines of when you should begin routine screening tests. These tests help physicians discover medical conditions that may otherwise go undetected. The physicians at Gulf Coast Obstetrics & Gynecology follow the national standards and will recommend you undergo the appropriate tests at your initial office visit or at your next annual exam; however they may recommend other testing intervals based on your personal history.
There is newer data available which implies that annual pap testing is not necessary, however patients should still receive annual examinations with pelvic examinations for ovarian cancer screening.
