VBAC Policy
With cesarean section rates on the rise, many women are considering a trial of labor after they have undergone a previous cesarean section. Vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) is generally considered safe in select patients, however the risks are increased over a normal birth. The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the American Academy of Family Physicians both have adopted policies regarding VBAC, and support physicians providing this service.
At this time, Gulf Coast Obstetrics & Gynecology does not routinely provide VBAC services to patients. If you have further questions regarding VBAC, its risks and benefits, or to find out who are candidates for this procedure, please feel free to ask your physician.
